An ESL-friendly introduction to Canada’s national parks – designed especially for newcomers

Our Learn-to-Camp program is a great way for new Canadians to feel confident and prepared for their first camping and hiking experience. Delivered in simple, accessible English, the program uses practical vocabulary and clear instructions that can be used right away during a visit to a national park.

Participants will learn:

  • What Parks Canada is, and the role it plays
  • How national parks are different from other parks
  • How to enjoy the park safely and respectfully, including wildlife and campground etiquette
  • How to set up a tent and campsite step-by-step
  • What to bring: a basic gear and equipment list

This program is ideal for individuals or families new to camping, hiking, and new to Canada.
