Tech Days! by YouTech NB for Grades K–2: Introduction to Coding, Robotics, and Patterns
Event Title:
Tech Days at MCAF!: Introduction to Coding, Robotics, and Patterns (Grades K–2)
By the End of This Workshop, You Will Be Able To:
- Understand basic programming concepts such as sequencing, commands, and directions through interactive activities.
- Apply logical thinking by recognizing and creating patterns using shapes and colors.
- Write step-by-step instructions (algorithms) to complete everyday tasks.
- Use age-appropriate coding platforms like ScratchJr and tools like Beebots and Dash & Dot to learn coding through play.
- Begin exploring problem-solving with robotics in a fun and guided environment.
What to Expect:
This interactive, hands-on workshop includes a series of fun, age-appropriate STEM stations:
- Session 1: Coding with Colors (ScratchJr)
Students use colored coding blocks to make characters move and tell simple stories. - Session 2: Robot Play with Beebots
Kids input directional commands to navigate Beebots through simple paths. - Session 3: Pattern Recognition with Shapes
Engaging shape and color activities to complete and build patterns. - Session 4: Introduction to Algorithms
Children break down real-life activities (like brushing teeth) into clear, logical steps. - Session 5: Exploring the World of Robots (Dash and Dot)
Use block coding to program simple actions and responses in Dash & Dot robots.
Activities will be guided by instructors with support for all learners, regardless of experience level.
Who Should Attend:
- Students currently in Kindergarten to Grade 2 with an interest in exploring how technology works.
No prior coding or robotics experience is required!
What’s Included:
- Full access to all five workshop sessions.
- Access to all STEM stations and guided activities.
- Use of ScratchJr, Beebots, Dash and Dot, and other tools.
-
Printable activity sheets and learning takeaways.
