Event Title:

Tech Days at MCAF! : Exploring Python, AI, and Data Science (Grades 9–12)

By the End of This Workshop, You Will Be Able To:

  • Write Python programs using functions, variables, and conditions to build real-world tools like a calculator.
  • Understand the fundamentals of data analytics and use tools like Excel or Google Sheets to explore and visualize datasets.
  • Design and build a basic chatbot using Python or Dialogflow and understand how natural language processing (NLP) works.
  • Analyze real-world data using Python libraries such as Pandas and Matplotlib.
  • Learn how to build and train a machine learning model using Scikit-learn, exploring classification and prediction concepts.

What to Expect:

This advanced-level STEM workshop offers real-world applications of technology through practical, hands-on sessions tailored to high school learners:

  • Session 01: Python for Beginners: Build a Simple Calculator
Learn Python fundamentals by designing a working calculator using variables, conditionals, and functions.
  • Session 02: Introduction to Data Analytics with Excel/Google Sheets
Explore structured datasets, perform data cleaning, and build basic visualizations to uncover insights.
  • Session 03: AI and Chatbots: Building a Simple Chatbot
Create your own chatbot that answers user questions using Dialogflow or Python.
  • Session 04: Data Science with Python: Analyzing Real-World Data
Learn data wrangling and visualization with real-world datasets using Pandas and Matplotlib.
  • Session 05: Exploring Machine Learning with Python
Dive into machine learning by building a simple classifier using Scikit-learn and explore how models learn from data.

Each session provides practical exposure to core concepts in programming, analytics, and artificial intelligence—perfect for students preparing for post-secondary STEM studies.

Who Should Attend:

  • High school students in Grades 9–12 with a growing interest in Python, AI, or data science.
  • Students considering STEM careers or post-secondary programs in computer science, data science, or engineering.

Prior programming experience is helpful but not required, support will be provided throughout.

What’s Included:

  • Access to five in-depth workshop sessions guided by experienced instructors.
  • Hands-on practice with Python, Excel/Google Sheets, Dialogflow, and Scikit-learn.
  • Reusable Python templates, chatbot scripts, and data visualization guides.
